What to check

Is the desk lead in poor condition, or stretched?

Check which colours in the desk lead are used for the lock button terminal '1'

When pressed, this connects to 'G' so test at the phone whether these two terminals are shorted, and again at the desk lead socket end.

If it works at the socket end, use a spare conductor in the lead for '1' if you have one.

Replace desk lead with one of the same type if available or CAT5 type with matching socket.
